Steampunk is a sub-genre based on science fiction, which is characterized by the steam powered machinery within the fiction.

It is inspired by the industrial civilization during the 19^th century, the settings are generally set within an alternate history of the British Victorian era, or the Wild West era of the USA.

 It is not uncommon for people to come up with steampunk variations of existing franchises and their characters.

There are many popular films with the Steampunk genre as their base, such films include “Wild Wild West”,  “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” and “Sherlock Homes (2010)”.

That’s not to say that Steampunk is limited to that form of media, it has also found it’s way into the games industry. Such games include, “Jak 2/3”, “Dishonored”, “Fable 3” and “Bioshock”.
